In Osomatsu-kun Season 1 Episode 1, the audience is introduced to the six identical Matsuno sextuplets, Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu. The episode begins with the brothers preparing for their high school entrance exams. Osomatsu leads the group, attempting to teach his brothers math, English, and other subjects. However, all six brothers struggle with their studies, and their father, Matsuzo, isn't much help either.
As the day of the exams draws near, the brothers realize that they are not prepared at all. Osomatsu tries to rally the group, but no one seems to be taking the exams seriously. When the day of the exams arrives, the brothers all oversleep, but manage to make it to the exam location, albeit a little late.
Despite their lack of preparation, the Matsuno brothers each adopt unique study strategies during the tests. Karamatsu repeatedly clears his throat to distract his fellow students around him, while Choromatsu uses his glasses to try to cheat off of the person in front of him. In contrast, Jyushimatsu takes an incredibly fast approach to tackling his exam questions, and Ichimatsu tries his own unique method, including using his cat to help him solve math problems.
As the exam ends, the brothers head home. Osomatsu is disappointed with how the day had gone, but his brothers remain optimistic. However, when they receive their test scores, the brothers are shocked to learn that they all failed miserably. While each brother takes their scores differently, Karamatsu tries to hide his own test score, convinced that he is the only one who failed.
As the episode comes to a close, the boys gather together to figure out a way to rectify their failed exams and still pursue their dreams of going to high school. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wondering what the sextuplets will do next.
Overall, Osomatsu-kun Season 1 Episode 1 is a charming and funny introduction to the Matsuno brothers. The humor is light and quirky, and the voice acting is superb. Fans of slice-of-life anime and comedy will enjoy this episode and the series as a whole.
