Rank the Prank is a family-friendly prank show that combines hidden camera footage with science experiments, social media hijinks and surprises to showcase funny and entertaining pranks. In season 1 episode 3 “Meteor Strikes!,” the team is joined by another prankster, who is disguised as a scientist, to launch a massive scale meteor prank on one of their own.
The episode opens with the pranksters brainstorming new prank ideas in their lab. They discuss a possible prank where they make their co-hosts believe that a meteor is heading towards them. The team decides to partner with a friend who is a scientist to make this prank a reality.
In a montage of the preparations for the prank, the team collects rocks of various shapes and sizes from a nearby quarry and drills holes into them to plant fake meteorites. They also build a replica of a meteor and rig it with smoke and explosives for added impact.
On the day of the prank, the target of the joke is sent out to do errands with a friend. Meanwhile, the rest of the team sets up the fake meteorites at multiple locations that the target is supposed to visit. As soon as he arrives at the first set-up, the fake meteorites explode, creating a commotion in the area.
The prankster/s pretending to be a scientist persuade the target and his friend to help them collect the samples and bring them back to their lab to study them. As they arrive at the lab and start analyzing the samples, they reveal to the target that the samples contain traces of bacteria that can cause some impressive effects. The “scientist” asks the team to take care of the sample while he goes to run an errand, leaving the meteorite in the care of his unwitting accomplices.
Things start to get out of hand, however, when the bacteria spreads and starts to have unexpected effects on the team. Sparks fly, objects start levitating, and the team ends up getting stuck to each other. The gags are hilarious and display the team members' excellent comedic skills and improvisation abilities.
The final reveal occurs when the “scientist,” who was, in fact, another prankster, appears to the group, revealing the entire prank to the target and his friend.
