Ep 5. Development

Three brothers, T.J., Marcus, and Mo, make up the primary cast of Smart Guys, a sitcom set in Washington, D.C. The trio of siblings faces all sorts of teenage hijinks and parental pressure while attending high school at the prestigious John Marshall High.

In episode 5 of season 1, titled Development, the boys' father Dr. James Henderson is in the process of creating a new, top-secret invention. Concerned about industrial spies discovering his work, he forbids his sons from entering his new lab room in the house. However, the curious T.J. can't resist the temptation to check it out, and convinces his brothers to help him sneak in when their parents are out of the house.

Once inside, they mistake a can of experimental spray-on insulation for a can of regular hairspray. They proceed to use the spray-on insulation on Mo's science project, which goes horribly wrong when the insulation explodes and ruins the project entirely. Frantic to replace Mo's project before he has to present it in class the next day, the boys decide to use their father's invention to build a new prototype.

As they work to create the model, they discover that they have the potential to create something groundbreaking. The boys put their heads together and use their different strengths to innovate and develop the prototype in record time.

Meanwhile, their father and mother are in for a surprise when they return home to discover that the boys have not only been in the lab room, but are creating potential scientific breakthroughs with their father's invention. Dr. Henderson is impressed by his sons' ingenuity, but strict as he is, he reminds them that they could have caused a catastrophic accident.

In the end, the boys manage to use their father's invention to create a new, superior version of Mo's project. The project is a huge success and impresses their teacher, but the boys learn an important lesson about respecting their parents' instructions and handling new technology with caution.

Smart Guys was a popular show that aired for three seasons on the Disney Channel from 1997-1999. It was created by Danny Kallis and Brian Suskind, and starred Tahj Mowry, Jason Weaver, and Omar Gooding as the three brothers respectively. The show tackled themes and issues relevant to teenagers, like school, peer pressure, and family, with a comedic tone.
