Nigel Marven continues his quest to uncover the world's deadliest snakes in the third episode of Ten Deadliest Snakes with Nigel Marven season 1. This time, he travels to the United States to investigate the country's six most lethal serpents.

The episode begins with Nigel heading to the Florida Everglades, where he hopes to encounter the Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake, the largest venomous snake in North America. With the help of experienced snake handlers, Nigel tracks down and captures a massive Eastern Diamondback, measuring over 7 feet in length. Nigel learns that these snakes possess potent neurotoxic venom that can incapacitate prey within minutes.

Next, Nigel travels to Arizona to find the Mohave rattlesnake, a creature feared for its venomous bite, which can cause paralysis and even death. In a lab, Nigel watches as venom is extracted from a Mohave rattlesnake for use in antivenom production. Later, he witnesses a brave volunteer allowed the snake to bite his arm, causing considerable pain but no lasting harm.

From Arizona, Nigel heads to Texas to investigate the Western Diamondback rattlesnake. He meets up with snake expert Matt Bowden, who takes him to a remote location where the snakes are known to hide. With a little luck and patience, Nigel finally spots a Western Diamondback basking in the sun. He learns that these snakes are responsible for a large number of snakebite fatalities in Texas and carries venom that can cause hemorrhaging and tissue damage.

Moving on, Nigel travels to the deserts of New Mexico to find the venomous Gila monster, the only poisonous lizard species in North America. Tracking down the elusive creature proves to be a challenge, but Nigel eventually discovers one hiding in a rocky crevice. As the Gila monster is a slow-moving creature that only bites when provoked, Nigel gets to handle it with care and learns that their venom can cause varying levels of toxicity, which can include nausea, drooling, and shortness of breath.

The penultimate snake on Nigel's list is the Copperhead, found throughout the eastern United States. Nigel catches up with Hemchand Gossai, who runs a venom farm that produces antivenom. Gossai guides Nigel through a snake-infested woods to identify the Copperhead and observe its behavior. He learns that the venom of this snake is less potent than that of the other snakes he has seen so far, but bites can be particularly painful.

The final snake on Nigel's list is the Coral snake, found in the southern United States. He visits a reptile park, where he observes a team of venom extraction experts milking a coral snake for its poisonous venom. He also handles one of the venous snake carefully. He discovers that the Coral snake's venom contains powerful neurotoxins, causing respiratory failure in their prey.

In the end, Nigel walks away with a newfound appreciation for the danger these snakes pose and the importance of conservation. Each breeding season, numerous human deaths are attributed to these deadly creatures. Furthermore, these snakes are not only at risk from human activity, but climate change due to changes in temperature affecting their habitats. It's up to us to respect these animals and their space to ensure they continue to thrive for years to come.
