As Playmaker enters deeper into the wilderness, he arrives at an abandoned factory where he is ambushed by a mysterious hooded figure using a powerful deck. The hooded figure seems to have a personal vendetta against Playmaker and is revealed to be a hacker who has created a virus to destroy the virtual world of VRAINS. Playmaker manages to turn the tide of the battle and almost succeeds in catching the hacker before he escapes into the computer system.

After the duel, Playmaker finds the small Ignis that he was searching for and decides to name it Ai. Ai had been hiding from Playmaker out of fear, but upon seeing his willingness and determination to protect VRAINS, Ai asks to travel with him. The episode ends with Ai and Playmaker bonding over their mutual desire to stop the hacker and protect their world from destruction.
