Superhero News: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Confirmed for 'Dark Knight Rises,' Juno Temple to Play Robin?

Sometimes rumors are just wild speculation, and sometimes they're completely true. For example: the rumor that "Inception" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be starring in "The Dark Knight Rises" had been accepted as fact even though it was not confirmed officially until yesterday. We all knew it was going to happen. Which character in the Batman universe JGL will be playing is still a mystery, though.

The JGL news yesterday was joined by a report that indie actress Juno Temple is in talks to join the film as well.

Temple's role is a bit clearer than JGL's, as she's rumored to play a "street-smart Gotham girl." Interestingly, that idea brings Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" comics, in which Batman befriends an ordinary girl from Gotham and makes her the new Robin. It has always been said that there will be no Robin in this Batman series, but perhaps this girl still helps Batman out in his vigilante-ism.

Meanwhile, JGL's role could be anyone's guess. Gary Oldman has said that there will be an old Batman villain from way back in the early days of the comics, but that doesn't help us out too much.

Could it be that we were misled this entire time and JGL will be the Riddler? It's unlikely, but I think the character could really fit the Nolanverse well. Dr. Death, Dr. Strange, the Penguin, and Deadshot are also possibilities.
