Even Robert Pattinson Thought He Was Cast in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

You can't believe everything you read on the internet. But sometimes you run across a story that you hope so badly is true, that you want to believe it no matter what. Like, say, a story that says you just landed a sought-after role in one of the biggest movie franchises running.

That's what happened to Robert Pattinson when he woke up this morning and read reports online that he was to be cast in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," the sequel being shot later this year.

"I was kind of curious for a second," said Pattinson, according to USA Today. "So I called my agent." Sadly for Pattinson and for fans of both "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" everywhere, the rumor turned out to be less than true. "My agent was like, 'No... no one's going to offer you that part.'"

Ouch. Harsh, right? But R-Pattz' agent has a point: "The Hunger Games" would be very unlikely to cross-brand with "Twilight," even after Lionsgate merged with Summit, combining the two studios that own the teen franchises.

Where did the rumor start? Who knows, but Perez Hilton helped make it go viral when his blog reported that Pattinson was up for consideration for the role of Finnick Odair. Finnick, without giving away any spoilers is one of the more prominent new characters in "Catching Fire," a former winner of the Games from District 4.

Looks like we'll have to wait to find out who will be playing Finnick. Pattinson, meanwhile, is still having a pretty good time: his new film "Cosmopolis" was met with a standing ovation at Cannes. And, of course, there's "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" due out later this year.
