Bye-Bye Baby: 'Modern Family' to Recast Baby Lily

Bye-Bye Baby: 'Modern Family' to Recast Baby Lily It's hard out there for a toddler. ABC's hit sitcom "Modern Family" just sent out a casting notice for a 3-to-4 year old little girl to replace Cameron and Mitchell's adopted daughter Lily, according to E! Online.

This change comes about because producers of the show wanted to delve into the comedy that comes along with raising an active toddler, and the hope is for a more vocal replacement.

It appears twin toddlers Jaden and Ella Hiller were most likely given advance notice of their pink slips. Jesse Tyler Ferguson mentioned the possible change on "Inside the Actors Studio" and Executive Producer Steve Levitan spoke about it with Entertainment Weekly back in May.

Why swap out the adorable and straight-laced dual Lilys for another child actress?

“At some point, Lily has to stop being a silent baby and has to become a little girl – a laughing, acting little girl,” Executive Producer Steve Levitan told Entertainment Weekly.

Tyler Ferguson made similar comments to E! Online in June saying, "It's interesting with children because we can't force this 2½-year-old child to start speaking, and we don't know if the twins who play Lily are inclined toward acting."

Levitan also spoke about concerns for the well being and happiness of the girls. He said if he didn't think it was in their best interest to stay, the show would recast.

Baby Lily has been a hilarious straight-man to the increasingly hysterical and dramatic antics of parents Cameron and Mitchell. It will definitely be sad to see the adorable and stoic twins trade in call times for nap times.

What do you think? Will you miss original baby Lily or is this for the best? Will it be fun to see a talking, trouble-making Lily next season on "Modern Family"?
