Gilbert Gottfried, Ex-Aflac Duck, Says He's Sorry

Gilbert Gottfried might not know when to stop cracking jokes, but at least he knows when to apologize.

The comedian and frequent "Comedy Central Roast" participant was fired by Aflac yesterday when he cracked a series of uncalled-for jokes on Twitter about the tsunami in Japan.

Aflac had been using Gottfried's unique voice for their duck mascot in their TV commercials, but upon seeing his tweets, they decided it was time for him to go.

Today, Gottfried issued a statement: "I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by my attempt at humor regarding the tragedy in Japan," said Gottfried. "I meant no disrespect, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families."

The apology, appropriately, went out on Gottfried's Twitter.

Meanwhile, Aflac (who called Gottfried's tweets "lacking in humor") is reportedly searching for a new voice actor to replace Gottfried as the voice of the Aflac Duck.
