'The Event' May Become a Syfy Miniseries
by Scott Nye
"The Event" - a series with a huge build-up and just as fast a fall. Approaching its premiere, ads were everywhere - moviegoers especially could not escape it. But as quickly as it came upon us, it was canceled.
Could there be renewed interest over at Syfy? Once the home for reruns of discarded sci-fi series, Syfy has taken to rescuing old concepts from the grave. Sure, they haven't quite reached the success of their "Battlestar Gallactica" days, but anything could happen.
And that might just happen with "The Event." Deadline is reporting that Syfy wants to pick it up as a miniseries to test the waters before possibly relaunching it with a whole new season. The biggest question is whether or not it's financially feasible for the cable network, but as it's owned by NBCUniversal, corporate sibling to "Event" production company Universal Media Studios, the rights shouldn't be too tricky.
Syfy has apparently been looking around at unwanted pilots now that the networks have announced their fall schedules. Could NBC's forgotten alien drama go with them? We shall see.
