Episode 'The Voice' Season 1, Episode 8 - 'Live Show, Quarter-Finals 2' Recap

Episode 'The Voice' Season 1, Episode 8 - 'Live Show, Quarter-Finals 2' Recap Last week, we saw the members of Team Christina and Team Blake perform in the first-ever live show. This week, we'll be seeing the uber-talented Team Adam and the unique Team Cee-Lo compete. Plus, four contestants will be cut: two from Team Christina, and two from Team Blake!

Carson introduces the judges, and Cee Lo looks like he made a jacket out of Michael Jackson gloves, dyed black. Christina looks considerably less scary this week, though the cleavage might still kill someone.

We're given a review of the Team Christina performances before the four contestants gather on stage, and Christina starts crying because she's "become so attached" to all of them. That makes Raquel cry, which makes Frenchie cry. Lily and Beverly just look like they might throw up.

The first save, which comes from the audience vote, is for Beverly McClellan, who is very excited about it. Christina cries some more. Beverly says she's "shaking in my shoes" and thanks America. You're welcome, Beverly.

Christina goes on a long, rambling monologue talking about the three contestants, stalling before she has to decide which one to save. She stalls more and inserts forced pauses before going with...Frenchie Davis. That means the adorable duo of Lily and Raquel are eliminated (booooo). Frenchie cries. Beverly cries! Boy, I hope Team Blake isn't this weepy.

It's probably the right choice from Christina, as Beverly and Frenchie are the most experience and therefore the most technically sound singers. But Raquel was so cute! She's like the size of a Smurf!

Saved: Beverly and Frenchie

Eliminated: Raquel and Lily

Back in the "V Room," Alison interviews Team Blake, who await their elimination later this episode. Alison also talks to Vicci, who admits, in reference to Frenchie and Beverly, that she "loves the crap out of those two."

Tori and Taylor Thompson will be singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" by the Andrews Sisters. If you haven't heard of it, that's because it's from the 1940's. It's a strange choice from Cee Lo, but then again he's a strange guy.

The sisters are dressed up in WWII-inspired uniforms and accompanied by a team of dancing buglers. The song comes complete with doo-wops and sha-bops and some cute little dance steps. The whole thing is a lot like Christina's "Candyman" video...in fact, the song sounds a lot like it, so this might have been what she took inspiration from.

Adam calls it "good old-fashioned entertainment." Blake asks if the outfits were Cee Lo's idea, and says that if they are, Cee Lo is "sick." Christina asks if they came out of her "Candyman" video and calls it "luscious." Despite the weird anachronistic nature of the whole thing, everybody seems to love it.

Casey Weston will be singing "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," which she wants to do as a slow ballad. Adam pushes her instead to perform it the way KT Tunstall does. She's accompanied by backup singers, a distracting harmonica, and three dudes with--I kid you not--plastic buckets for drums. I guess NBC cut the budget for the show.

Casey does pretty well, though it's still not the most energetic performance. Blake says he wants to download it right now, and notes that he's always wondered what the Blue Man Group looks like "without their stuff on." Christina wants to "reach inside" Casey and pull out "the tiger," whatever that means. Cee Lo notes that she seemed outside of her comfort zone, but still did a great job. I didn't catch what Adam said because they were showing Blake downloading the song on his iPhone.

Vicci Martinez is up next for Team Cee Lo and will be singing "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. I'm a little worried about her being behind that guitar for the whole song, since her energetic performances are part of her charm. Ah, luckily she's putting the guitar away now, and walking through the set of "Phantom of the Opera." It's a much slower song than we're used to from Vicci, but we're still getting a lot of soul out of Vicci's fascinating voice. It's a great performance, very emotional.

Adam loves it, Blake calls her "explosive" and Christina loved the "ambience" which she pronounced "am-bee-ence" then corrects herself and says "ahm-bee-ahnce." Why is she so awkward?

Devon Barley is singing "Stop and Stare" by One Republic. The rehearsals show that Devon has a problem with nerves, and Adam tries to coach him through it. Sure enough, Devon is definitely nervous during the performance, and looks very alone on the stage with just him and a microphone. Unfortunately, the nerves get the best of him and he breaks a bit, and gets a little pitchy.

Blake calls it "powerful" and commends Devon for being alone on stage. Christina says "I'm into you, Devon." First she wants Patrick's pants off, now she's after Devon! Christina keeps cooing over him while Cee Lo talks, causing him to forget what he was going to see. Adam notes that he wanted to give Devon the stage alone without any fire or flashy stuff to try to beat the other teams with raw talent.

Cee Lo brought his team to a day spa for their meeting, and delivers an inspirational speech while they're all wearing robes. Cee Lo's is a red and black number, complete with a big necklace. I don't catch much of what they say because I'm giggling too much. Cee Lo says that Adam and Blake have a "bromance" going on and they have to "murder them." Then, I kid you not, he claps his hands and masseuses come in. I second Carson's comment: "those are some nervous massages."

Team Cee Lo performs Sly and the Family Stone's "Everyday People," complete with incredible flower-power outfits and stage effects. It's pretty unbelievable. Cee Lo, by the way, chose to wear a gigantic fake afro. This guy is insane, and I frickin' love it. Scooby-dooby-dooby, everyone, so on and so on.

Back in the V Room, Jeff makes an inappropriate comment about the "legal Thompson sister." Hey, at least he said "legal."

Nakia is performing next, and he's doing "Sex on Fire" by Kings of Leon. Cee Lo hopes to take him out of his comfort zone. Nakia takes me out of my comfort zone when he gives the camera the eyes. Wow, and one performance after everybody talks about he great it is that Devon didn't have any fire or flashy stuff, Nakia's performance actually has fire. Real fire! But it doesn't detract from Nakia's performance, which is very strong. He's definitely one of the frontrunners.

Blake says he "felt the burn" when Nakia pointed at him and said "your sex is on fire." Cee Lo thought he did a fantastic job with it. No comment from Christina and Adam...I guess we're getting a little short on time.

Jeff Jenkins will be singing "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood, because he feels an emotional connection to it after his mom passed away. Jeff is a little concerned about the range, understandable since he's singing a girl's song.

Whoa. I'd never heard this song before. It's horrifying on the level of "Last Kiss" by The Cavaliers. Jeff does a great job with it, and both Christina and Adam were wowed by the performance. If I had to guess, I'd say Cee Lo is safe.

Adam, looking hung over and wearing shades, has everyone over to his house in the Hollywood hills for their meeting. No massages this time. Adam tells them that there are going to be a lot of "gimmicks" and "feathers," especially from Cee Lo.

Team Adam performs the Joe Cocker gospel cover of "I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends," and sure enough it's just the talent at center stage, singing their hearts out. No fire, no feathers. There is a choir, though. I have to say, not only do I love this song (it remains one of the few Beatles covers that compares to the actual Beatles), but Team Adam totally crushes it. Javier practically tears the roof off the place.

Curtis Grimes will be singing "Addicted to Love" for Curtis, as an experiment to bring a non-country song to a country singer. Curtis is one of the bigger talents on Cee Lo's team, so we'll see if he can handle it. Oddly enough, the whole thing sounds a little low for him, and he seems low-energy as a result. He has a little trouble making the repeating chorus interesting each time.

Adam is jealous of Curtis' voice, Blake gives him a hard time about dropping his guitar, and Christina gets even more inappropriate with her comments about Curtis making out with everyone. In fact, a good chunk of the conversation gets bleeped out. Christina's all revved up tonight. Yikes.

Javier Colon is the last performer up for Team Adam. Javier chose "Angel" by Sarah MacLachlan. Why? He says it reminds him of a lullaby that he would sing to his kids. This song just makes me think of that ASPCA commercial with all the injured, orphaned animals.

On the plus side, Javier really gets to show off his range. Adam tells him to scale it back a little bit, the same note that Javier has gotten from the beginning. He takes it this time, and holds back at least until the second verse before letting loose with the crazy runs and vocal showmanship. The crowd goes nuts, and rightfully so. This guy is going to win this competition hands down.

Blake simply gives him the thumbs-up. Christina calls him "the one that got away," and Cee Lo says he has "The Voice of an angel." Adam calls it "absolutely perfect."

One last point of business before the end of the episode: two of Team Blake's contestants have to go home. A recap of their performances show the awesome cover of "Heartless" by Dia, Patrick's belting performance, Xenia's awkward choreography, and Jared's rock show.

The audience vote saves Dia (yay!) who totally deserves it for that awesome Kanye cover. Blake agrees. Blake clearly has a soft spot for Patrick, as his only remaining country guy. Xenia has a problem with nerves, and Jared might have been lucky to get this far considering he got a second chance at the auditions. But in a big shocker, Blake goes with Xenia! He says "I can't effect change with Jared and Patrick the way I can with Xenia." That's a really great sentiment from him, he's clearly looking to be a mentor to the girl.

Carson notes that Xenia and Dia are very similar, which could be tough going through the competition, but Blake contends that the two "feed off each other" so well, that they'll make a strong team. Good on you, Blake. You might have just made up for eliminating Tyler Robinson in the battle round to take Patrick.

Saved: Dia and Xenia

Eliminated: Jared and Patrick
