Watch The Voice
Of all the new competitive singing shows on television, The Voice stands out from the crowd. The format of the show is different, the judges/coaches are all famous singers, and it's the most credible of the reality music shows. Following tryouts, The Voice is staged in three rounds: Blind Auditions, Battle Round, and America Votes. The singers appearing on television go through a blind audition. They are judged on one factor - their voice. The judges do not see the singers. That makes the competition more about singing than appearance.
Each judge selects the same number of singers for a team. If a judge presses the button to select a singer, that contestant advances to the next round. If more than one judge happens to buzz in and turn around for the same contestant, the contestant gets to choose a coach.
Once each team is filled, coaches bring in two more professional singers to prepare contestants for the next round. These advisers are also big name celebrities in the record industry. The head coach for each team selects two singers to perform the same song together in the Battle Round. Each contestant practices with one mentor before appearing on stage in a huge boxing ring. After the Battle Round, the team coach eliminates one of the singers.
America Votes is the final round. Singers from each team perform solos and sing with coaches. After voting, one contestant remains for each team. The final four perform and America votes to select the winner.
In addition to the different format, the professionals involved with the show make it highly credible. Host Carson Daly has his own TV show related to music. Blake Shelton is an award-winning country singer. Pop diva Christina Aguilera has collected five Grammies and sold over 30 million albums. CeeLo Green is a producer. He also sings, raps, and writes songs. Adam Levine is the lead singer for Maroon 5. The band has scored top ten hits and Grammy nominations.
One of the biggest factors setting The Voice apart from competitors is respect for contestants. Viewers aren't exposed to bad singers humiliated by judges or exploited by the producers.
Rather than criticizing contestants, The Voice coaches offer positive feedback. They exchange friendly barbs and appear to enjoy working together. Watching the judges interact is part of the entertainment on The Voice.

If you've been anywhere near a radio, mall, sporting event or pretty much anywhere else in the last year, chances are you've heard "Blurred Lines." Therein lies the problem that led to this case. As it turns out, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have made about $16 million off of the song, which would be fine except for the fact that it's a blatant ripoff of a classic Marvin Gaye song from 1977 titled "Got to Give It Up." We say "fact" because a jury has found that "Blurred Lines" infringes on the copyright of Gaye's song, leading a judge on the case to award $7.
Taylor Swift is taking her talents to NBC! The "Shake It Off" singer is set to join the upcoming seventh season of "The Voice" as a guest mentor, assisting the panel of judges/mentors in coaching their selected talent in the earlier rounds. According to reports, Swift will likely act the same way Coldplay singer Chris Martin did in season six, coaching the talent in all four groups. With two of the four seats on the "Voice" coaches' bench seeing a lot of change recently, Swift's signing on to the show is already starting rumors that she might stay on permanently as one of the four full-season mentors.
CeeLo Green temporarily took down his Twitter account on Sunday, after comments he made regarding the rape of women raised eyebrows and had fans in an uproar. The comments came two days after the "Voice" coach pleaded "no contest" in court to accusations that he slipped an Ecstasy pill into a date's drink. The plea will allow Green, who maintains his innocence, to avoid serving jail time. He was sentenced to three years probation and 360 hours of community service for the drug conviction, but avoided any charges of sexual assault due to lack of evidence.
That beautiful glow isn't just love (and bellydance sweat) - Colombian singer and "Voice" coach Shakira is expecting again! This will be baby number two for Shakira and her man, Gerard Pique. Little Milan, who was born in January of 2013, already spends much of his time at soccer star Dad's games. Will his new sibling also be a sports fan? A friend of the singer accidentally spilled the beans originally. Singer Carlos Vives told Fox News Latino, "Yes, she is pregnant and very happy.
Congratulations to Christina Aguilera! The singer and erstwhile "The Voice" coach gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday, August 16. She delivered via C-section at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles according to Us Weekly, which is a little more info than we needed. The new baby girl is the 33-year-old singer's second child, though she's the first with Aguilera's current fiance Matt Rutler. Aguilera has a six-year-old son, Max, with her ex-husband Jordan Bratman.
Another gorgeous couple makes it official this year! "The Voice" coach and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine has wed his Victoria's Secret model fiancee Behati Prinsloo. The two tied the knot in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in front of nearly 300 guests. This included celebrities like Candice Swanepoel and Jason Segal. Friend Jonah Hill officiated the ceremony. "He also talked about how sweet Behati is and how perfect they are for each other," says an insider. "He set up the joke perfectly.
Summer seems to be the time for weddings and break-ups, as yet another celebrity couple bites the dust. This time it's "The Voice" talent and singer Jewel calling it quits with rodeo cowboy husband Ty Murray. The two have known each other for sixteen years, dated for ten, and married in 2008. They have one son, Kase. Jewel took to her blog to make the announcement. "Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be no less loving than the way we came together.
Popular singing show "The Voice" will be seeing some new faces on the judge panel this year, although not all of them are permanent, so don't get too attached. With current mentor/coach Christina Aguilera set to give birth later this year, NBC has reportedly signed a 1-year contract with "No Doubt" lead Gwen Stefani to fill the empty seat. It's not the first time Stefani was set to appear on a judge's panel. In 2012, the red-lipped lady was set to replace judge Steve Jones on "X Factor," but the change-up never happened.
