A Chinese Odyssey II -- Cinderella is a 1995 Hong Kong fantasy-comedy film directed by Jeffrey Lau. It is the sequel to the hugely popular 1994 film A Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box. The film is set in ancient China and follows the misadventures of Monkey King (played by Stephen Chow) as he searches for the reincarnation of his lost love, the White Bone Demon (played by Athena Chu). Aiding him in his quest is his sidekick, the pig demon Zhu Bajie (played by Ng Man-tat), and other eccentric characters he meets along the way.
The story begins with a recap of the events of the first film, where Monkey King was punished by the Goddess of Mercy for causing chaos in heaven. He was sent to the human world, where he falls in love with the White Bone Demon, who is then killed by the demon king Bull Demon King. Monkey King then marries a mortal woman named Jing Jing (played by Ada Choi), who gives birth to a son named Ah Zi (played by Jeffrey Lau).
As the film begins, Monkey King is living with his family in a small village, where he works as a butcher. His former companions, the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan, come looking for him, hoping to use him in their own schemes. Things take a turn for the worse when Ah Zi is kidnapped by the Bull Demon King, who hopes to use him as a bargaining chip to secure the location of the Monkey King's magical weapon, the Golden Rod.
In order to rescue his son, Monkey King embarks on a journey to find the Golden Rod. Along the way, he is reunited with Zhu Bajie, who has been turned into a woman by a jealous enchantress. Together, they navigate through various obstacles and confrontations, including a tribe of Amazonian women, a group of Taoist monks, and a reincarnated version of the White Bone Demon, who is now working as a servant in the Bull Demon King's palace.
One of the main themes of the film is love, and how it can overcome even the greatest obstacles. Monkey King is devoted to finding his lost love, even if it means risking his own life to do so. He is also fiercely protective of his son, and will do anything to save him. Another theme is the idea of destiny and how it can be changed by one's actions. Monkey King's decision to marry a mortal woman instead of waiting for his true love to be reincarnated leads to the birth of Ah Zi, who becomes a key player in the film's plot.
Like its predecessor, A Chinese Odyssey II -- Cinderella is known for its slapstick humor, over-the-top special effects, and clever wordplay. The film also features a number of catchy musical numbers, including a parody of the popular Taiwanese song "The Moon Represents My Heart." Overall, the film is a fun and entertaining adventure that will delight fans of Hong Kong cinema and fantasy-comedy films.
