Wendy Scott and Susan Parker are two friends who met in the Spring of 1981. They worked for the same company and instantly developed a friendship. However, it wasn't too long before they both noticed that their friendship wasn't just a friendship, and that they shared a mutual attraction for one another. Both women are deeply religious and are part of the Wake Forest Baptist Church. Controversy swirled in 1997 as they tried to get their church to marry them. The church refused and both ladies went on a political rampage as a result. The ensuing drama made headlines and set the stage for other same-sex couples to fight for their beliefs.
