Chile is a paradise on Earth. Its beautiful beaches stretch out into a vast and breathtaking ocean, whose waves lap luxuriously at the golden sands. The mountains raise themselves up to sky as if offering themselves in worship, and the lushness of the landscape radiates from every living thing. In addition to its natural beauty, the dream destination is filled with glamorous, over the top parties with waterfalls of booze, friendly, helpful guys, and absolutely gorgeous women. In short,it is the perfect location for an American tourist, Gringo(Eli Roth),to escape to. There is only one problem. Gringo, and his two Chilean pals Ariel (Ariel Levy) and Pollo (Nicolás Martínez), are having a little trouble with the ladies. No one seems to be interested until the trio meet a group of three beautiful Russian women, a model, a party-girl, and her no-nonsense, straight laced sister. The three seem to take a liking to the guys and agree to travel with them to the exotic party destination of Valapariso on Chile's sun kissed coast. When the group arrives they have the time of their lives, dancing, partying, and soaking up the culture when a horrific earthquake hits, shattering the world around them. Valapariso, which only moments before had been a dream come true, is now a nightmare. Buildings are in crumbled heaps around them, the screams of those trapped in the rubble echoes in their ears, and death is very much alive and walking among them. In this land of destruction and chaos, where terror comes not only in the form of aftershocks that continually shake the ground causing further decimation, but of lawlessness, looters, and rampant violence, the heroes find themselves in the ultimate test of survival in the most hostile of situations.
