Beatrice Morrow Cannady (1890-1974) was one of Oregon's pioneer African American civil rights advocates. Born in Litig Texas, she moved to Portland in 1910 where set met and married her first husband, a waiter at the Portland Hotel and the editor and co-founder of the Advocate, Portland's only African American newspaper at that time.
