Alexis is a 32-year-old white woman married to Alain, an African from Rwanda. They have a 3-year-old daughter, Sienna and their second child Jazmine, was born on July 17th 2008. The 25-minute documentary focuses on the birth interspersed with interviews with Alexis, her husband, Alexis' parents, the soon to be great-grandmother and the midwife.

Birthing At Home is very graphic and dramatic. There were problems. The birthing pool just wasn't working. The birthing stool didn't work either so Alexis had to deliver on a cot. Through all the screaming, pushing and drama it's amazing how calm and focused the midwife is. With Alexis' parents and grandmother looking on we see the baby's head emerge, then, the shoulders and then the rest of Jazmine comes out. Jazmine weighed in at ten and a half pounds. Birthing At Home, in one phrase, is the agony and the ecstasy.
