The 2007 dark comedy horror flick "Blood Car" is set in a dystopian future where gasoline prices have skyrocketed, leading to a society where people are desperate for alternative sources of fuel. Enter archetypal loser Archie Andrews (Mike Brune). Archie is a mild-mannered kindergarten teacher who longs to invent something that will make him rich and famous. After several failed attempts at creating various inventions, a chance encounter with a vegan activist who accidentally cuts herself leads to a gruesome discovery: he can use her blood to power his car.

From there, things spiral out of control and Archie's forbidden love interest - his brother's girlfriend Denise (Anna Chlumsky) - gets involved. They try to replicate the success that he had with accidental vegan blood, trying to find ways to gather more blood to power more cars. The ensuing hilarity is both cringe-worthy and very dark. The movie manages to combine humor and horror in a way that has become something of a cult classic.

As Archie's fame increases, he finds himself being chased by the government, while also trying to protect his invention from falling into the wrong hands. In one memorable sequence, Archie accidentally drives his car into a group of nuns, revealing his true nature as a selfish and ruthless danger to everyone around him.

The movie is an unapologetic satire that ruthlessly lampoons American culture and corporate greed, as well as the lengths that people will go to in order to achieve their goals. The bloodthirsty, self-absorbed Archie - with his ever-present toothy grin - is the perfect anti-hero for a film like this. His pursuit of fame and fortune at all costs is so ingrained in his being that he can barely hide his eagerness when he discovers that he can make a fortune off of the blood of his fellow man.

Despite the ridiculous premise, the movie features a few genuinely disturbing sequences. At times, the horror aspect of the film is so potent that it skews the balance towards a darker tone than funky comedy. For example, there's a scene where Denise decides to go on a hunger strike to protest the growing depravity of society. When Archie finally agrees to join her, the two become so consumed by the hunger that they end up committing unspeakable acts against their new vegan friends.

Overall, "Blood Car" is a fun and twisted ride with a message about the dangers of corporate greed and the human cost of chasing after power and wealth at all costs. It manages to make you laugh and squirm in equal measures while delivering an important message about the toll that our addiction to oil is taking on the world. The ending is both satisfying and unsettling, the kind of bittersweet resolution that perfectly encapsulates the movie's themes.

With a talented cast that includes Brune, Chlumsky, and Orr as the vegan activist/love interest, "Blood Car" is a hidden gem of a horror-comedy that deserves more attention than it has received.

Blood Car is a 2007 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 16 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2.
