"Body Cam" is a 2020 supernatural horror-mystery film that follows the story of a group of police officers investigating a series of gruesome murders in Los Angeles. Officer Renee Lomito-Smith (played by Mary J. Blige) is demoted to desk duty after a fatal shooting incident that she was involved in. She is then assigned to the night shift, where she becomes involved in a case of police brutality involving a mentally ill black man that went viral. Renee begins to notice strange occurrences and unexplainable events after the suicide of the officer responsible for the incident, who reportedly heard strange whispers on their body camera footage.

The unexplained events revolve around body cam footage that shows a mysterious figure responsible for the murders, who only emerges on the recordings. Renee becomes convinced that the footage is real and begins to investigate in secret with her partner, Danny Holledge (played by Nat Wolff). They discover that the footage is linked to an old police case involving a group of rogue cops who brutally murdered a young boy during a drug bust. The boy's mother, a voodoo priestess, had placed a curse on the officers that resulted in their deaths, and she is now using the curse to exact revenge on the police department.

As the investigation continues, Renee and Danny become more and more entangled in the curse, and the vengeful ghost becomes more powerful. The curse manifests itself in various forms, including hallucinations, nightmares and gruesome murders, and Renee becomes desperate to end it before it claims more lives. She eventually confronts the voodoo priestess, played by Anika Noni Rose, in a gripping climax that reveals the true nature of the curse and the lengths that some people will go to seek justice.

The movie boasts an excellent cast, with Mary J. Blige delivering a solid performance as the beleaguered officer seeking redemption. Nat Wolff also shines as her rookie partner, bringing a sense of vulnerability and humor to the role. David Zayas rounds out the cast as Captain Santos, the officer in charge of the investigation, who is torn between his loyalty to the police department and his desire for justice.

"Body Cam" is more than just a horror movie; it is a thought-provoking exploration of police brutality, race relations, and the need for accountability within law enforcement. The supernatural elements provide a unique twist that keeps the audience engaged throughout the film, but the real heart of the story lies in the characters and their journey. The film does an excellent job of balancing action, suspense, and social commentary, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre and anyone interested in thought-provoking cinema.

Overall, "Body Cam" is a gripping and well-crafted horror-mystery that explores weighty issues while still providing plenty of thrills and scares. The cast is excellent, the story is engaging, and the supernatural elements add a truly terrifying twist to the proceedings. If you're a fan of horror films that are more than just mindless gore-fests, you won't want to miss this one.
