The Canal du Midi is located in the South of France, begins at Etang de Thau and leads up to Toulouse. It is certainly one of the most beautiful waterways in Europe for boating. Rarely is a canal, both in the historical sense, as well as in technical terms, of such interest. In its time it was a groundbreaking marvel. Additionally it leads through some of the most beautiful and scenic countryside and offers recreation and pleasure, not only for charter-boat travellers, but also for hikers or bikers along its banks. We can only hope that this natural and technological gem remains intact for many generations to come.
