Carl Theodore Dreyer is a famous Danish director earning his popularity with films Du sollst Deine Frau ehren (You Should Honor Your Wife), Die Passion der Jungfrau von Orléans (The Passion of Joan of Arc) and Gertrud (Gertrude). Dreyer was the master of light composition on film sets, character portrayal and succinct script-writing. The documentary follows the life of this famous Danish director and his slow but inevitable climb into directorhood.

Dreyer experimented with sound and different film locations for many of his films. Sound was first made available to directors in 1929. The Documentary discusses Dreyer’s relationship with modern film techniques and classic silent nuances.
