Cause For Alarm is a 1951 American film noir thriller, directed by Tay Garnett and starring Loretta Young and Barry Sullivan. The movie tells the story of a young woman named Ellen Jones, who finds herself in a perilous situation when her husband, George, becomes seriously ill. Ellen is a devoted wife, who is always by her husband's side, taking care of him and trying to make him feel better. She is a kind and compassionate woman, loved by everyone in the community, and genuinely devoted to her husband. George, on the other hand, is a jealous, controlling, and paranoid man, who is convinced that Ellen is having an affair with their friend, Dr. Ranney.
When George suddenly becomes ill, Ellen is the one who takes care of him, and sees to his every need. However, as George's condition worsens, he becomes more and more paranoid and suspicious of Ellen's intentions. He begins to accuse her of trying to kill him, and becomes obsessed with the idea that she is having an affair with Dr. Ranney.
Desperate to prove her innocence, Ellen tries to get help from her friends and neighbors, but no one seems willing to take her side. Even her own sister, who is staying with her, starts to doubt her innocence. Just when things seem to be at their bleakest, Ellen decides to take matters into her own hands, and goes to see Dr. Ranney in person.
From here, the movie becomes a tense and exciting thriller, as Ellen tries to prove her innocence and clear her name. The movie is full of twists and turns, and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the very end.
The acting in this movie is superb, and Loretta Young gives a particularly impressive performance as Ellen Jones. She perfectly captures the character's desperation and fear, as well as her determination to clear her name. Barry Sullivan is also excellent as George Jones, playing the part of the paranoid and controlling husband with great skill.
