Dark Song, directed by Irish filmmaker Liam Gavin, is a horror thriller movie that tells the story of a young woman named Sophia (Catherine Walker) who hires an occultist named Joseph (Steve Oram) to perform a dangerous ritual to contact her dead son. Joseph is hesitant at first, warning Sophia that the ritual requires a tremendous amount of time, energy, and commitment. But Sophia is determined to meet her son again, and she convinces Joseph to help her.

As they prepare for the ritual, Sophia and Joseph retreat to a remote cabin in the Welsh countryside. They collaborate on building a protective circle and creating sigils. Joseph trains Sophia on meditation and takes her through various psychic exercises to prepare her for the intense journey ahead. As the two work together, they form a curious bond that is both distant and intimate.

But when the ritual finally begins, Sophia and Joseph quickly realize that they have opened a door to dark and dangerous forces. The intense and grueling ritual takes an immense toll on their mental and physical health. They are forced to endure isolation, hunger, and exhaustion as they communicate with the supernatural world. But despite the hardships, Sophia and Joseph persist with the ritual, as they realize that there is no turning back.

As the night progresses, strange and terrifying things begin to happen in the cabin. The spirits they've summoned become increasingly violent, and their visions of the deceased child become more intense and horrific. Sophia and Joseph's minds are pushed to the brink of sanity, and it becomes clear that there may be no way out of the ritual alive.

Dark Song is an incredibly intense and unsettling movie that delves deep into the dark side of the supernatural world. Throughout the movie, the tension and unease grow as the ritual unfolds, and the audience is forced to question whether the end will justify the means. The performance of the actors, particularly Catherine Walker, is fantastic, bringing a sense of authenticity and emotional weight to the story.

The cinematography of Dark Song is also excellent. The filmmakers make great use of the limited location, exploring the corridors and nooks of the cabin in innovative and creative ways. The camera work is moody, atmospheric, and provides a claustrophobic feel to the film.

The sound design of the movie is another fascinating aspect. There is very little music throughout the film. Instead, the audience is treated to an array of unsettling and disturbing soundscapes that heighten the tension and unease. The sound design works so seamlessly with the visual elements of the movie that it becomes practically immersive.

Overall, Dark Song is a deeply unsettling and thought-provoking movie that explores the dangers of the supernatural. It's a movie that is not for the faint of heart, as it delves into some of the bleakest and most disturbing aspects of horror. Fans of slow-burning thriller movies and occult-themed films will undoubtedly enjoy this movie. It's narrative structure and filmmaking is engaging and impressive. Dark Song will leave the viewers with a sense of dread and foreboding that will stay with them long after the credits have rolled.
