American short movie (duration 1 minute 36 seconds), created from computer game Quake. First-person shooter released by ID Software. It was created by United Ranger Films, famous group of players of computer games, known as the "Rangers". The film was released on the Internet in the form of non-interactive demos of the game. The video is regarded as the first famous example of machinima, that is, the ability to use real-time virtual 3D-medium, and game engines to create animated films.
Storyline of Diary of a Camper takes place entirely on a map called Quake DM 6 («The Dark Zone»). After an examination of some of the region, "Rangers" get together and decide to send two people, Sphinx and Pyoveli, to scout the area above. Soon after teleport into the room, camper that is waiting there kills them both, which was confirmed in the game text messages that appear on the screen.
