The centre provides refuge for giant pandas in need and serves as a home for research on their behaviour, breeding habits, and habitat requirements.

As the journey proceeds, Charles and Wen discover the mountainous province of Sichuan, known for its spicy cuisine and beautiful tea fields. They visit Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, where they discover the best street eats and engage with street vendors. They also witness face-changing and hear from one of the masters who shares some of the secrets of the art form.

The journey wraps up at the bustling financial hub of Shanghai, where the crew discovers one of China's busiest cities, home to modern high-sky skyscrapers that contrast sharply with ancient temples and classical gardens. Viewers learn how Shanghai transformed from a humble fishing town to one of the most important cultural and economic cities in China in just a century.
