Program 1: Humans have misused these ecosystems around the world, so our freshwater swamps, marshes and lagoons are in great need of restoration. Covering only 1% of the earth's surface, these places are home to 40% of the world's species. Program 2: There is an astonishing and complete ecosystem, called the neuston, in the area of surface tension or skin of water environments. The epineuston, or top of the water barrier, creates a community of insects that seem to walk on water. hyponeuston, or underside of the water barrier, also reveals the amazing adaptations of mosquito larvae.
