Ghar Jamai is a family drama movie released in 1992, directed by Arun Bhatt. The movie features an ensemble cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Rita Bhaduri, Birbal, and Kanwaljit Singh. The movie revolves around the life of Ravi (Mithun Chakraborty), who is a jobless youth. He belongs to a middle-class family and lives with his mother (Rita Bhaduri) and younger sister. Ravi's uncle is estranged from his wife and children, and he does not want to live a lonely life. So he hatches a plan to bring Ravi to his house as his son-in-law.

Ravi's uncle arranges his daughter's marriage with Ravi's intention to bring him to his bungalow. Ravi agrees to the proposal because he thinks that it will be an excellent opportunity for him to provide for his family. The wedding takes place, and Ravi moves into his uncle's mansion with his new bride.

Ravi's new life is luxurious, but he soon realizes that he has made a mistake. Living in his uncle's bungalow is not an easy task. His wife's stepmother does not treat him well, and his father-in-law always interferes in his life. Moreover, Ravi had to lie to his mother and sister about his relationship status because he did not want to hurt them. Things escalate when Ravi's wife finds out about the truth, and Ravi's uncle throws them both out of the house.

Ravi and his wife move back to their old house with his mother and sister. His wife is expecting, and Ravi starts to worry about the future. His uncle, realizing his mistake, comes to their help and offers them a house. Ravi refuses the offer, as he does not want to ruin his dignity.

The movie deals with the themes of family, loyalty, and love. It depicts the struggles of a man who wants to provide for his family but chooses a wrong way. Mithun Chakraborty's performance is excellent, and he portrays the innocence and the vulnerability of the character with ease. Rita Bhaduri is outstanding as the mother, who is proud of her son's achievements but worried about her family's dignity. Birbal plays his role of a wealthy but lonely businessman with finesse.
