Ghost Light is a 2018 horror-comedy directed by John Stimpson and starring Roger Bart, Tom Riley, and Shannyn Sossamon. The film follows a group of actors rehearsing a production of Macbeth in an old, secluded theater, where rumors of ghostly activity abound. The story kicks off with a fun and lighthearted tone as the actors arrive at the theater and begin their rehearsals. The veteran actor, Henry (Roger Bart), plays the role of Macbeth while his understudy, Tom (Tom Riley), plays his counterpart, Banquo. Meanwhile, Tara (Shannyn Sossamon), Henry's former flame and the love interest of the play's director, Alex (Cary Elwes), has been hired to play Lady Macbeth.

As the group gets deeper into rehearsals, strange occurrences begin to happen. There's a strange smell that lingers in the air, doors that open and close on their own, and objects moving inexplicably. None of the actors think too much about these occurrences until the night of the final dress rehearsal, when a mysterious figure in a white gown appears on stage.

From this point on, the tone of the movie transitions from comedy to horror as the actors start to realize that there may be something supernatural afoot. They soon discover that the theater was built on top of the site of an old Salem witch trial and that the theater's founder, a descendant of one of the accused witches, may have cursed the theater.

The filmmakers do an excellent job of building suspense throughout the movie. The 90-minute runtime is just the right length to keep the audience on the edge of their seats while not overstaying its welcome. The film does a great job of balancing horror and comedy, introducing plenty of humorous moments to lighten the mood before ratcheting up the suspense again.

One of the things that works particularly well in Ghost Light is the chemistry between the actors. Roger Bart is particularly memorable as the seasoned actor, Henry. His portrayal of the increasingly panicked Macbeth actor is both humorous and suspenseful. Tom Riley complements him well as the calm and collected Banquo understudy, providing a nice foil to the more neurotic Henry.

Shannyn Sossamon, as Tara, is initially relegated to a typical romantic interest for Alex, but her character arc becomes much more interesting as the film progresses. Her motives are somewhat ambiguous throughout the film, and her relationship with the supernatural happenings in the theater makes for a surprisingly intriguing subplot.

Overall, Ghost Light is an enjoyable horror-comedy that delivers plenty of laughs and chills. The theater setting provides a spooky backdrop, and the supernatural elements are used to great effect. The film is carried by the chemistry and performances of its leads, and the pacing and tone are well-managed throughout. Fans of horror-comedies should definitely put Ghost Light on their watchlist.

In conclusion, Ghost Light is a must-watch for horror-comedy fans. It has all the elements of a great genre mashup: a spooky setting, charismatic actors, and just the right amount of scares and laughs. Highly recommended.
