Home of the Brave is the story of Viola Liuzzo. Liuzzo was a white, Detroit based activist who joined the fight for suffrage and racial equality in Alabama. She marched from Selma to Montgomery and performed many logistical tasks before and after it, including transporting fellow volunteers to and from their homes. She was murdered by Klansmen. Much of the documentary is told through Liuzzo’s four children, who communicate their additional grief at watching their mother become a target of an FBI smear campaign as well as the impact her good works and her death had on their lives.
