Watch Horror of the Hungry Humongous Hungan

As you might expect from the title, Horror of the Hungry Humongous Hungan is a low-budget horror movie that tosses together a few different tropes to make its story. The movie follows a group of scientists who uncover a dangerous creature living in the jungle, and brings it back to their facility. The creature itself is a bizarre, otherworldly monstrosity that is somehow both reptilian and insect-like, with a long tail and sharp, insectoid mandibles. Its appearance is definitely creepy, and the film plays up this angle by showing the creature mostly in shadow or partial glimpses until the final act.

The film is definitely on the gorier side, with plenty of gore and blood flying everywhere. This is mostly thanks to the monster's sharp teeth and fast movements, which make its attacks quick and brutal. Most of the victims in the film are scientists, though the monster also takes down a few security guards and locals as well.

The script is pretty threadbare, with most of the dialogue being exposition or exposition disguised as banter between the characters. The characters themselves are all pretty one-note, with the main protagonist being a stoic scientist who takes charge in the face of danger, and the rest of the cast being comprised of a young and inexperienced lab assistant, a grizzled veteran security guard, and a few other forgettable characters.

Despite its flaws, Horror of the Hungry Humongous Hungan does have a certain charm to it. The film makers clearly knew what they were making, and even though the film is cheesy and over-the-top, it succeeds in being entertaining in its own right. If you're a fan of cheesy b-movies or creature features, you might find some enjoyment in this one. Just don't go in expecting high art.
