Shot in Hong Kong, the 1994 movie "I Have a Date with Spring" was adapted from a play from writer and filmmaker Raymond To. The film tells the story of four female characters through a flashback of one night at the Flower Palace Nightclub in 1967, during the times of the Leftist Riots between police and pro-communist Leftists. The film also looks at the fates of these women, including popular singers and actresses Butterfly Yiu and Lulu Kim, during modern day times. The movie also touches upon the evolution of the romantic relationship between Butterfly Yiu and Karl Sum.
