I Served the King of England is a 2006 movie based on a Czech novel of the same name. The Czech director Jiri Menzel directed the movie. He is one of the leading figures of the Czech New Wave school of cinema. The story is a social commentary on the social and political conditions that Czech people endured during the 20th century. The story takes place in Prague in the 1940s during the Nazi occupation and the early years of Communism. The story centers on a young man named Dite. Dite’s ambition is to become a hotelier. He is a somewhat eccentric young man attracted to women and money.
