Making the Grade is an 80s comedy starring Judd Nelson as Palmer Woodrow, a wealthy college dropout who attempts to win back his girlfriend by posing as a high school student. Jonna Lee plays Eddie Keaton, a rebellious teenager who takes Palmer under his wing and teaches him how to fit in with the high school crowd. The movie opens with Palmer getting kicked out of college for his poor grades and unenthusiastic attitude towards his education. Determined to win back his ex-girlfriend, Alison (played by Dana Olsen), Palmer decides to reinvent himself and pose as a teenager in Alison's high school. With the help of a fake ID and some careful planning, Palmer manages to enroll himself in the same school as Alison and starts attending classes. However, Palmer quickly realizes that fitting in with high school students is harder than he thought. He doesn't know the latest slang, struggles to keep up with the school's demanding curriculum, and has to compete with Eddie Keaton, the school's resident rebel, for Alison's attention. Eddie takes a liking to Palmer's "cool" demeanor and decides to offer him his friendship. Palmer and Eddie become fast friends, and Eddie starts teaching Palmer how to be more like a high school student. He shows Palmer how to dress in the latest fashion, helps him master some skateboard moves, and teaches him how to pick up girls. Palmer also discovers a newfound talent for music, and the two friends form a band together. As Palmer's relationships with Eddie and Alison grow stronger, he starts to question his original motives for posing as a high school student. He begins to enjoy the high school experience and realizes that he misses the innocence and energy of his youth. However, Palmer's lies catch up with him, and he must decide whether to come clean to his friends and risk losing them or keep up the facade and continue deceiving them. Making the Grade is a lighthearted, feel-good movie that captures the spirit of the 80s. The film features an all-star young cast, including a pre-Breakfast Club Judd Nelson, and its upbeat soundtrack includes some of the most popular songs of the era. The plot is formulaic, but the film's humor and charm make it an enjoyable watch. Making the Grade is a nostalgic trip back to a simpler time, and fans of 80s movies will find it to be a fun and entertaining experience.
