A Nong Khai native, Khan returns home from his university to celebrate an annual festival, Naga fireballs. When he arrives he finds himself caught up in a raging dispute over the cause of the fireballs. A university professor, Dr. Suraphol is stating the fireballs are manmade and therefore a hoax. Khan grew up as a dek wat at the Buddhist temple that lies across the river in Laos. He knows the truth behind the fireballs as he often helped the monks create and plant them. The temple's abbot begs Khan to help them once again plant fireballs, but he is weary of the myth they have created. This triggers a conflict between science and religion and threatens to change many lives forever.
