Mississippi Queen depicts Paige Williams’ return to her southern home in order to explore the relationship between religion and homosexuality. Raised as a Southern Baptist, Paige’s world was turned on its head when she met her girlfriend in high school. Now, her parents operate the state’s only ex-gay ministry. As Paige uses her close proximity to the issue to have conversations with current and former homosexuals about southern values and homosexuality, she also attempts to reach an understanding with her parents regarding their separate ideals. Ultimately, Mississippi Queen depicts the thriving homosexual culture of the south from a unique and informative perspective.
