Muthal Echarikkai, which translates to First Warning, is a Tamil-language Indian thriller movie released in 2018. Directed by Ravee Paargavan and produced by Ganesh Vinayakan, the movie stars Vetri, Visithra, and newcomer Dhruvva in lead roles. The movie starts with a young couple, Sathya (Vetri) and Sangeetha (Visithra), leading a peaceful life together until their world is turned upside down when they become witness to a murder. Despite their efforts to report the incident to the police, they are forced to go into hiding when the murderers start to blackmail and threaten them. Unable to trust anyone around them, they have to stay one step ahead of their hunters while trying to figure out a way to clear their names and bring the culprits to justice.

As the movie progresses, we are introduced to a few other characters who all seem to have a vested interest in the couple's safety. A mysterious man (played by Dhruvva) appears and begins to offer his help, but he too comes with his own secrets and agendas. The couple's family members also add more layers of complexity to an already intricate plotline, and it becomes harder and harder to know who to trust.

What sets Muthal Echarikkai apart from other thrillers is the way the director approaches the narrative. Instead of relying on loud music and action sequences to create tension, the movie unfolds slowly, building a sense of foreboding with each passing scene. The camera work is excellent, and the use of shadows and silhouettes adds to the overall eerie atmosphere. The music is also used to great effect, subtly in the background adding to the character development.

The lead actors, Vetri and Visithra, are both outstanding in their roles. They have a natural chemistry that is believable and relatable, making their characters' plight all the more palpable for the audience. That said, the standout performance belongs to Dhruvva, who manages to create an enigmatic yet sympathetic character that keeps the audience guessing.

The screenplay is taut, and the director keeps the audience guessing until the very end. As the pieces of the puzzle slowly come together, it becomes clear that nothing is as it seems, and the twists keep coming until the very last moment. The climax of the movie is both satisfying and unexpected, and without giving away too much, it is safe to say that it leaves the audience in a state of shock and awe.
