At the beginning of 2014, a new New York Mayor has been elected: he is Bill de Blasio, one-hundred ninth New York City Mayor, the fourth of Italian-American origins. Bill de Blasio was born in America, but his maternal grandparents were originally from Sant'Agata de Goti (county of Benevento), and Grassano (county of Matera). ¨The latter, Grassano, is also the town where the film's author's roots lie in. Inspired by this peculiar coincidence, the author embarks on a trip to the South of Italy, together with his father, in order to rediscover his roots, witness De Blasio's historical visit to Grassano, and collect stories about a community that has been forced to abandon its motherland, looking for a better future, as the Big Apple first citizen's grandmother had one-hundred years ago.
