Watch Niagara Falls

Roaming far from home, the brothers Lumiere gave less mobile viewers a chance to glimpse one of the world's most fabled sights in this very early miniature. It provides a topside view of two among the three spectacular falls on the U.S./Canada border, with spectators visible on an undeveloped overlook between them. Niagara's fame as a honeymooning tourist destination was the result of publicity campaign launched after the Civil War by an American railroad company offering service to the area. - Dennis Harvey
