Watch Older Than Ireland
- 1 hr 21 min
Older Than Ireland is a documentary covering the lives of thirty centenarians from Ireland. The title of the movie refers to the fact that the men and women who are the subjects of the movie are actually older than the country in which they live. The Republic of Ireland gained it's independence in 1922. Besides witnessing Ireland's independence, these centenarians lived through historic events such as two world wars, the long period of conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, the growth of air travel, the birth of the computer age, and the exploration of space. However, this documentary does not just cover world and historic events. It also covers the personal lives of these centenarians. They talk about growing up, their school days, their first loves, and the loss of loved ones. It's an oral history that mixes all the contradictions of personal perspectives on history with all the shared emotions of human lives.
