The global population is exploding towards 9 billion by 2050. Every single day of the year, many thousands of new mouths are added to the total that have to be fed. Already, famine is a reality in many parts of the world. Famine will become a reality for many more unless we can win the battle to raise dramatically the world's total food production. It's a battle that's fought on two fronts. One is the constant research to increase plant productivity. The other is the struggle to destroy the pests that devour and destroy billions of tons of the food crops that are grown, before they can be harvested. The Pest Wars is about this battle, and the remarkable array of new weapons that scientists are developing to keep the hordes of pests at bay. It is a battle we have to win.
