Pettilambattra is a Malayalam comedy-drama film released in 2018 that tells the story of a group of villagers who team up to save their ancestral property from being usurped by an ambitious businessman. The movie is set in a small village in Kerala, where the residents are closely knit together and share a deep bond with their ancestral property, a dilapidated mansion known as "Pettilambattra." However, the peace and tranquility of the village is shattered when a wealthy businessman, Keshavan Pilla, announces his plans to acquire the mansion and turn it into a resort.
The villagers are initially appalled by Keshavan's actions, but they soon realize that they are powerless against his political clout and money power. That's when they decide to take matters into their own hands and prevent the businessman from taking over their property.
The lead character of the movie is Rameshan (played by Rony Raj), a lazy and irresponsible young man who is more interested in lazing around than working. However, when he discovers that his father's ancestral property is in danger, he springs into action and gathers a group of like-minded villagers to fight Keshavan.
Along with Rameshan, the group includes some eccentric characters like Balan (played by Indrans), a cobbler who claims to have psychic powers, and Kunjappan (played by Levin Simon Joseph), a local carpenter who dreams of becoming an actor. Despite their seemingly odd personalities, the group is united in their resolve to save Pettilambattra from being ruined.
As the story unfolds, we witness the group's hilarious attempts to outsmart Keshavan, ranging from staging fake protests to enlisting the help of the spirits that are believed to haunt the mansion. However, Keshavan is not one to be easily deterred, and he resorts to increasingly devious means to achieve his goals.
The movie is directed by Syam Lenin and features a talented cast of actors who bring their characters to life with ease. Rony Raj stands out as the lead protagonist, with his effortless comic timing and charming demeanor. Indrans, who is known for his naturalistic acting style, is equally impressive in his portrayal of Balan, the cobbler.
Levin Simon Joseph, who plays Kunjappan, brings a touch of innocence and sincerity to his role, making him a lovable character that viewers will root for. The supporting cast, including Sreejith Ravi, Neha Ratnakaran, and Shaju Sreedhar, also do justice to their roles and provide able support to the main cast.
The movie's cinematography, done by Sreekanth Easwar, is noteworthy for its stunning visuals of the picturesque village landscape. The music by Bijibal is also a highlight, with its catchy tunes and soulful melodies that add a layer of emotion to the story.
Overall, Pettilambattra is a delightful movie that offers plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments. While it tackles serious issues like corporate greed and land acquisition, it does so with a light touch that never feels preachy or heavy-handed. With its talented cast and skilled direction, the movie is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good comedy-drama.
