Watch Polar & Subpolar Climates

This program explores the Earth's polar and subpolar regions and describes the people, plants, and animals that live there. Computer animations show how the angle of the earth's axis produces the "land of the midnight sun" and how the planet's magnetic field causes the aurora borealis, or northern lights. Inhabitants of polar and subpolar regions are highly dependent on their natural environments: in the subpolar tundra and taiga, the Saami people (Laplanders) depend on reindeer herds, while in the Arctic, the Inuit hunt seals.
