When a Japanese lord commands a Korean painter decorate his temple, the painter paints what he sees in the lord's realm. The images are full of pain and suffering and anger the lord. The anger is further incensed when the paintings seem to have magical properties that heighten the depicted turmoil. Realizing that there may be a mystic property to the paintings in the temple, the painter has an idea and decides his final work for the temple will be a portrait of Hell.
