Princesa is a 2001 Italian movie directed by Henrique Goldman, based on a true story. The movie tells the story of Fernanda, a young transgender Brazilian woman who comes to Italy to earn money by working as a prostitute. The movie starts with Fernanda (Ingrid de Souza) working as a prostitute in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. She saves enough money to travel to Italy and start a new life. Once she arrives in Rome, she meets some other sex workers like herself, who help her find accommodation and work. Cesare (Cesare Bocci), an Italian chef, becomes her friend and helps her learn Italian. He is the only person she can trust and confide in.

As Fernanda starts her life as a sex worker in Rome, she keeps in touch with her family back in Brazil. Her mother and younger brother are not aware of what Fernanda does for a living in Italy. They believe that she is employed as a waitress in a restaurant. Fernanda also falls in love with a transgender Italian woman named Lulu (Lulu Pecorari), who is also a sex worker.

Despite being a victim of violence and exploitation at the hands of some of her clients and pimps, Fernanda remains optimistic and hopeful. She dreams of saving enough money to undergo sex reassignment surgery and becoming a woman legally. Cesare helps her realize this dream, and he supports her emotionally and financially throughout the movie.

Princesa is a powerful movie that deals with themes of identity, gender, exploitation, and the struggles of immigrants in a foreign land. The movie portrays the harsh reality of the lives of sex workers, particularly transgender women, who are often subjected to violence, discrimination, and prejudice. The film also sheds light on the hardships that immigrants face in their quest for a better life.

Ingrid de Souza's performance as Fernanda is outstanding, and she brings a lot of authenticity to the role. Cesare Bocci is also excellent as Cesare, the kind-hearted chef who becomes Fernanda's friend and protector. Lulu Pecorari gives a memorable performance as Lulu, the Italian transgender woman who becomes Fernanda's lover.

The movie is beautifully shot, and the use of handheld cameras gives a documentary-like feel to the film. The scenes of Rome's night-time streets, with their neon-lit cafes, restaurants, and sex clubs, create an atmosphere of danger and excitement.

Overall, Princesa is a moving and thought-provoking film that raises important questions about identity, gender, and human rights. It is a must-watch for anyone interested in exploring the lives of sex workers and the struggles of immigrants in modern-day Europe.

Princesa is a 2001 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.5 and a MetaScore of 62.
