For young men in the Dominican Republic there is only sometimes one way out of poverty and that is to be drafted and signed by a Major League Baseball team.

Successful Dominican natives also appear in the documentary with their own personal stories of hunger and hardship. David Ortiz and Vladamir Guerrero started on these very same dirt lots and give young men a role model to follow as they chase their own dreams.

Road to the Big Leagues is a 2008 documentary with a runtime of 53 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.5.
