Somebody Waiting is a short documentary which tells the sobering story of the mistreatment that physically and mentally disabled children residing in psychiatric treatment centers endured at one time in our nations history. Filmed over 40 years ago, the documentary goes inside the walls of one specific children's treatment facility and shows visual images of young children who are emaciated, unclean, malnourished, and who spend their days confined to tiny cribs.

As the plight of these children is explored, the film also examines ways in which inpatient treatment for disabled children had begun to improve throughout America at the time the documentary was filmed. The film uses the video footage of children suffering in confinement to provide the viewer with a reminder of the atrocities that had occurred, but provides a hopeful tone for the future of inpatient care for disabled children.
