Static is a Canadian psychological thriller that follows a successful writer named Jonathan Dade (played by Steve Byers) as he and his pregnant wife Addie (played by Sarah Manninen) move into a new home in the countryside. The film explores themes of paranoia, isolation, and mental illness as the couple begins to experience strange occurrences in their new home.

The film opens with a simple image of Jonathan sitting at his desk, typing away on his laptop. As he types, the camera pans over to reveal his wife lying in bed, looking at him with a worried expression. We soon learn that the couple has moved to this isolated farmhouse in order to escape the stresses of city life and focus on their writing and their new baby.

However, as they settle into their new home, they begin to notice strange things happening around them. Doors open and close seemingly on their own, objects move without explanation, and strange noises can be heard throughout the house. At first, Jonathan tries to brush these occurrences off as simple quirks of an old house, but as they become more frequent and more intense, he begins to suspect that something more sinister is at play.

Jonathan's paranoia is fueled by his past experiences with mental illness. Throughout the film, we see flashbacks to Jonathan's time in a mental hospital following a breakdown caused by the stress of his writing career. Although he appears to have recovered from this episode, the memories still haunt him, and he becomes increasingly convinced that his current situation is yet another manifestation of his own madness.

As Jonathan's mental state deteriorates, he begins to imagine that his new neighbor, a reclusive old man named Will (played by the late Maury Chaykin), is somehow responsible for the strange occurrences in his home. He becomes obsessed with Will, spying on him through binoculars and constructing elaborate theories about his involvement in the paranormal events.

At the same time, Jonathan's relationship with his wife begins to suffer. Addie grows increasingly frustrated with his obsession and his inability to see reason, and she becomes worried about his mental state. As the film progresses, it becomes clear that their marriage is in danger of falling apart completely.

In the climactic moments of the film, the truth about the strange occurrences in the house is finally revealed, and Jonathan's worst fears are confirmed. Without giving away any spoilers, it is enough to say that the film takes a dark turn in its final act, leading to a tense and unsettling conclusion.

Overall, Static is a well-made psychological thriller that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The strong performances from Steve Byers and Maury Chaykin are highlights of the film, and the tension builds steadily throughout the runtime. However, it should be noted that the film deals with heavy themes related to mental illness and paranoia, and some viewers may find it too intense or unsettling. Nevertheless, for fans of the genre, Static is a compelling and well-executed addition to the genre.

Static is a 2009 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes.
