Confidence is a 2003 movie directed by James Foley and starring Edward Burns, Rachel Weisz, and Dustin Hoffman. The film tells the story of Jake Vig, a con artist who along with his team of hustlers, decides to take on the boss of Los Angeles' underworld, a powerful and dangerous criminal mastermind by the name of King. The movie starts with Vig, played by Burns, carrying out a small-time con with his crew, including Miles, played by Brian Van Holt, and Gordo, played by Paul Giamatti, in a Los Angeles nightclub. After successfully swindling a corrupt LAPD detective, Lloyd Whitworth, played by Donal Logue, Vig and his team find themselves at odds with the criminal associates of Lloyd.

To get out of this predicament, they enlist the help of a veteran con man, The King, played amazingly by Dustin Hoffman. The King agrees to help them but with one condition - he will take a large percentage of the proceeds of their scam. The con they devise involves the swindling of Morgan Price, a rich banker, played by Robert Forster. They convince the banker that he is helping the FBI with a sting operation, but in reality, they will swindle him out of millions of dollars.

The team starts working on the plan, which seems simple enough at first but quickly turns into a complicated mess. As the scam unfolds, the crew realizes that they have stepped into something that is way over their head.

The plot of the movie is engaging and intriguing, with interesting twists and turns that make it entertaining to watch. The plot keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, with its unexpected plot twists and reveals.

The characters are well written, with emotional depth and complexity. Edward Burns as Jake Vig does an excellent job of portraying the self-assured con man. He exudes a suave confidence that adds to his charisma. He plays Vig as a street-smart con artist with a heart, which makes him endearing to the audience.

Dustin Hoffman as The King is outstanding in his role. He commands attention every time he is on the screen, and his character is both intimidating and charming at the same time. Rachel Weisz as Lily, a grifter who works with Jake and his team, gives a good performance. She isn’t on the screen as much as the other actors, but she still managed to make a significant impact.

The movie's cinematography is stylish and visually appealing, with well-choreographed camera work perfect for the con movie genre. The action is well-shot and not overly complicated, making it easy for the audience to follow.

The film's music and sound effects are also fantastic, with a great soundtrack that sets the tone for the movie. It gives the film an edge that makes it stand out from other generic heist movies.

One aspect that makes the movie stand out is its cinematography, the colour grading of each scene, and the way it was shot, depicting the world of con artists and criminals. It’s a gritty, noirish world where everything and everyone is a potential target for trickery.

In conclusion, Confidence is a well-crafted con film that keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. Excellent acting, writing, and directing make it a movie worth watching. While some of its twists feel a little contrived and its resolution is somewhat predictable, it still manages to maintain its momentum and not feel stale. It’s a good movie that will leave the viewers entertained and gratified.
