The term "killer video game" takes on an entirely new meaning in Stay Alive. Stay Alive centers around a video game of the same name and the havoc that it wreaks on the lives of those it comes into contact with. This becomes apparent in the opening sequence of the movie as we find three individuals who have all played the game meeting with freakish accidents that cost them their lives. The movie then focuses on a group of friends led by Hutch, who was the best friend of one of the victims. While attending his friend’s funeral, Hutch receives a case of games from the victim’s sister; it seems that her brother was a video-game tester, and since Hutch is such an avid player, she decides to give the games to him. Hutch and his group decide to get together to see what the games are and choose the last one that was being worked on, Stay Alive. The game seems harmless enough at first, but the group realizes that there is something strange in the fact that you must recite a chant that appears on the screen before being allowed into the game. However, this is simply chalked up to a new technology and quickly dismissed. The game centers around a plantation outside of New Orleans and the "Blood Countess" and the efforts of the players to escape her clutches in the game. However, the movie takes a decidedly frightening turn as the events that transpire in the game begin taking place in real life. It quickly becomes apparent that there is much more to this game than meets the eye. This becomes bluntly obvious as, one by one, Hutch’s friends who have played the game and died are dying in real life like their characters did in the game. With only Hutch and two of his friends left alive they race to put an end to the curse behind the game and save their own lives before the "Blood Countess" strikes again.
