An uplifting love story of self-discovery and courage, "Around June" follows the life of June. The shy young woman leads a solitary life. She balances her time between working at a local diner and taking care of her simple-minded Uncle Henry and her alcoholic, abusive father. June's life is at this point without joy but that is about to change. Frolicking momentarily in the rain, June catches the eye of Juan Diego, an illegal immigrant. Though penniless, the man's gaze and bashful manner enchant June. For his part, Juan is taken with June's beauty and free spirit. The earnest and sincere Juan is smitten, as is June but the two need a push. Uncle Henry is just that push. He nudges the two lonely people toward each other as he narrates the story for us. When they finally come together, it is Juan's unconditional love that gives June the courage and ability to finally break the bonds that have held her prisoner in her own life for so long.
